Let me introduce you to candidate Pat Miles.

Let me introduce you to candidate Pat Miles.

The first question I get asked when I mention her name and running for Alderman for the City of Pulaski is, “Who is he?”

Well HE is a SHE! Pat Miles has lived here for several years and has served as Alderman off and on for several terms, elected then defeated. Here are a few photos of her from her Facebook page(s). Pages is plural. Why would she have multiple pages? I had to investigate.

Well after a few seconds of looking at her pages, it was easily discovered that she claims to have been born June 6, 1956. That would make her 62 years old. After looking at her voter registration information it turns out she was born December 6, 1942. That would make her soon to be 76. Why in the world would she claim such a deception?

My first encounter with Pat Miles was when she was first elected to City Council. I was also an Alderman for the City of Pulaski at the time. I’ll never forget her first meeting. There was discussion about cleaning out the storm drains before winter. She asked, “What is a storm drain?”. We knew we had our hands full after that.

After I moved outside the city limits I had to resign. I had already served on the Economic Development Commission as Secretary for approximately 6 years. I had to resign EDC also. A few years later I was reappointed to fill a vacancy on that commission. I was elected Chairman in 2009. Alderman Miles would occasionally come to the meetings. At one meeting, the Mayor of Elkton, Carolyn Thompson was discussing meeting with officials from North Alabama to encourage the 4 lane project of Highway 53 from Huntsville to Ardmore. Alderman Miles piped up and said “it definitely needs to be done, when Huntsville is hit by a nuclear bomb they will need a way to get out quickly”. Many of us just ducked our heads to keep from laughing out loud.

That was all humorous and fun. However, when Dan Speer became ill with cancer there was a meeting and some discussion about a subject that she disagreed with Dan on. Her comment in the meeting was “oh well, that issue will take care of itself in time”, She was referring to Dan succumbing to his death by his illness. NOT a single person I know appreciated that comment, nor will we forget it.

This comment and others, labeled her as the “Diarrhea of the Mouth, Constipation of Thought” Alderman. You never knew what would come out of her mouth. She later wrote Dan a long note and mailed it to him apologizing for her comments and was very elaborate in her praises for him. Dan laughed when he showed the card to us and read it in a full EDC Board meeting.

Several years ago, after an election, Mayor Ford was to appoint someone from City Council to serve on the EDC board. After the election, it took him months to make a decision. To the resentment of the majority of the EDC members, he appointed Colby Baddour. See my YouTube video of a meeting discussing this:

Colby Baddour rarely showed up for meetings out of the two years he was on the EDC Board. When he did he rarely participated. After the last Aldermanic Election, Mayor Ford again, went against the wishes of the EDC Board and this time appointed Pat Miles to serve on this board.

Mayor Ford knew he had Alderman Miles in his “back pocket” and she would vote as he directed her to on any issue. He had a new Puppet! In June of this year, I prepared a budget for the 2018-2019 year for EDC and I met with the Board Operations Committee to review this along with a couple other things. The EDC Director was not included in this meeting and had never been included in any other Board Operations meetings. I also made a suggestion to transfer $100,000.00 out of the “Operating” account to an account called Restricted Assets. The Committee approved my working budget and agreed to transfer the money. Much of the detail of these meetings can be read in my other entries under “Letter to EDC Members regarding my retirement/resignation. So I will not repeat it here.

Alderman Miles claimed she heard about a meeting of the Personnel Committee and Board Operations Committee at a meeting just prior to this meeting. She claimed she didn’t know anything about it. Ironically she had lots of “prepared” questions. Please listen to the recording of that meeting of 8/16/18 that is also posted on my web site. We also found it VERY ironic that Mayor Ford never said one word during that meeting and was actually questioned about it at about 1 hour and 5 minutes into the meeting. It was very clear, he sent Pat Miles in to do his dirty work and she isn’t smart enough to figure that out.

During this meeting she claimed she had a sincere interest in the issues around the preparation of the budget etc. In the prior meeting I had requested that the Executive Director run all Asset purchases, Travel Expenses and items to be discussed on the Agenda before me beforehand.

Alderman Miles called this Micro Managing and insisted I not do this and went on to say “her board”, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen for the City of Pulaski do not Micro manage any office. I found that shocking that she would claim that. I do know for a fact, City Council approves any travel requests in ADVANCE and also approves the expenses reimbursed after the travel. I also know that any asset purchases over a certain about (it was $5000 when I was an Alderman) were approved by the entire City Council. The Mayor approves the agenda before each meeting. So Alderman Miles is extremely misinformed and obviously has no clue what is going on to make these statements. At that meeting she was extremely interested in being a part of the decisions to be made in regard to my requests. I resigned on August 22nd. There were at least two meetings of these two committees shortly after my resignation. Alderman Miles did not attend either one of them and has had no direct input since the August 16 meeting. That to me speaks volumes on her motives (and the Mayors).

In this August 16 meeting she and the EDC director attempted to “reprimand” me for a Facebook post claiming “we need new leadership”. They said I could not voice my opinion while serving on EDC Board. Well lets see about that!!!

In her announcement for reelection recently she claimed credit for the following:

“As an alderman, Miles has been involved with the improvements to
Magazine Road Park, widening of Highway 31 South and upgrading of
water, sewer and gas lines throughout Pulaski. She participated in the
infrastructure and development of the Hampton Inn and Giles Place
Mall.

I have no idea what she personally has done for Magazine Rd park other than vote for improvements. Her listing the widening of Hwy 31 south is a total joke. I was on the EDC in the 1990s when the property was purchased for the Speer Industrial Park South. Within a couple years our group began to work with the State EDC office to try and get that widening on the State’s agenda. This was in mid to late 1990’s, long before she was Alderman. This issue never came before City Council nor any other group other that the State of Tennessee. So what her involvement was in that it a total misstatement. She claims upgrading Water, Sewer and gas lines throughout Pulaski. What did she personally do for this? Now the real winner in this is her listing the Hampton Inn and Giles Place Mall as one of her accomplishments. If you remember, Dan Speer worked diligently to get this to Pulaski. Pulaski City Council fought him and would not make a commitment to run the utilities across the road for this venture. They stalled it for months if not years. It makes one wonder if the other Motel owner that attends Council meetings lately was trying to manipulate our City Council into not approving this. Hampton Inn is a great asset to Pulaski and Giles County. Guess what they named the Conference room. No, not Pat Miles Room not Pat Ford room, but Dan Speer Conference room!

In closing, I have tried for many years to work with Alderman Pat Miles. That has been challenging to say the least because of her abstract thinking and bizarre thoughts.

My mother had her pegged many years ago but I would not listen to her. Pat would show up at my mothers house right at dinner time claiming “oh I didn’t realize you were about to eat, but it sure smells “wonderful” and she would invite herself to eat. It would infuriate my mother, but of course she would never say a word. Now that I watch this, it is easy to find Pat Miles. Just look for the FREE FOOD!

So here are two options for her to use as her campaign signs:

She has done NOTHING in her numerous terms on City Council. Therefore, I will say it again!
WE NEED NEW LEADERSHIP. We don't need PUPPETS!
