Giles County
Established in honor of Senator William B. Giles of Virginia
One of the strongest advocates for the admission of Tennessee
to the Union; he served in the U.S. Senate from 1804 to 1815 and was
Governor of Virginia, 1827-1830

Maury County
Established 1807; named in honor of Abram Maury
The Williamson County Surveyor, who on the commissioners
appointed to lay out counties in West Tennessee. He was
State Senator in 1805, later a member of State House of Representatives
