Giles County
Established in honor of Senator William B. Giles of Virginia
One of the strongest advocates for the admission of Tennessee
to the Union; he served in the U.S. Senate from 1804 to 1815 and was
Governor of Virginia, 1827-1830

Lincoln County
Established 1809; named in honor of
Major General Benjamin Lincoln
of the Revolutionary Army. After service at Saratoga,
he was put in Chief Command in the Southern Colonies. Later
he was Secretary of War under the Confederation, 1781-1783
